Sculpt For Wildlife

In our 15th Annual Sand Sculpture Contest, The Outer Banks Wildlife Shelter and the Atlantis Lodge invited visitors and local residents to play in the sand & win prizes! Our annual fundraiser attracted repeat competitors and some new entries. The professional sand sculptors known as Sandy Feat returned again this year to delight the crowd with a one of a kind center-piece forthe contest entitled Owls Playing Hockey.

The competition categories included Adult, Children and mixed age teams. With 9 prizes in each category, plus a People's Choice award, everyone walked away a winner!!

This year's People's Choice Award went to last year's winners, from Raleigh. Their sculpture depicted sea turtle hatchlings heading to sea from their nest, which was a continuation of last year's sculpture of a mother sea turtle returning to sea after laying her eggs. Great Job Ladies!!

Thanks to all of you who came out and weathered the threatening storm clouds and distant thunder to compete! You help us keep working to protect the North Carolina Wildlife.
